Biography
“Mariangela “Mary” Demurtas (born on November 4, 1981 , in Ozieri , island of Sardinia, Italy), is an Italian rock singer. She is currently the vocalist of the Norwegian gothic and doom metal group Tristania.
In her career, Mary has been a vocalist for the band Reel Fiction . before entering Tristania, and her influences are Diamanda Galas, Lisa DalBello, Skin, Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley.
Demurtas was born in Ozieri, Sardinia in 1981, but grew up in Bitti – a municipality in the province of Nuoro , in the region of Sardinia – from 1998; Even during high school, Mari (as she likes to call herself) participated in a cultural exchange program through the Asociación Intercultura-AFS in the Dominican Republic , so she learned to speak Spanish.
He completed his scientific course at Ozieri, and moved to Sassari – an Italian province in the Sardinia region – where he enrolled at the Faculty of Languages and Literature, from which, a few years later, he graduated in Literature. Currently, she has a postgraduate degree in Letters.
During his college years, he joined the cast of a theater company. After graduation, Mary moved to Milan , where she lived until she joined the Norwegian symphonic metal band Tristania.
Having sung since childhood in music competitions in his home country and, from adolescence in low-renowned Italian bands – for example: “Reel Fiction” -. his worldwide recognition was given until he joined Tristania.
With a powerful and deep voice, he has imposed a lot of dynamism and dedication on the concert tour that they have carried out so far, performing the songs that they recorded with Vibeke Stene , who left shortly after recording the album Illumination in February 2007.
On October 19, 2007, through a statement on its official Tristania website. Tristania announced her incorporation as a stable vocalist in the band.”
